Description of Collection

Content description

The Curzon Collection comprises the correspondence and papers of George Nathaniel Curzon, Marquess Curzon of Kedleston (1859-1925), Parliamentary Under-Secretary, India Office 1891-92 and Foreign Office 1895-98; Viceroy of India 1898-1905; Lord Privy Seal 1915-16; Lord President of the Council and member of the War Cabinet 1916-19; Foreign Secretary 1919-24. It illuminates every period of his life from childhood until death. It also includes some material relating to other members of his family. Other material relating to Curzon, and the first Lady Curzon, will be found elsewhere in the India Office Private Papers.

History and development

The Curzon Collection was received in various stages between 1962 and 1977.

Strengths

Particular strengths are the papers relating to his Viceroyalty and Foreign Secretaryship.
