Content description
This collection provides near-comprehensive coverage of British India central and local government publications up to 1947 and also includes British statutes, parliamentary journals, debates and papers and other British official publications relating to Indian affairs. The publications of the Indian states, with the exception of administration reports, are not generally to be found in the collection.
History and development
The official publications section of the India Office Records contains the volumes which formed the reference collection maintained by the Record Department of the India Office. Following the independence of India and Pakistan in 1947, the India Office Records (with the India Office Library) passed eventually to the control of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 1982 the administration of the India Office Library and Records was transferred to the British Library Board.
Strengths
The official publications contain full and readily accessible information about the activities of the East India Company and all aspects of British government in India and conditions in India.

A closed access collection. The Official Publications are a sub-fonds of the India Office Records. They are assigned the reference V in the India Office Records alpha-numeric classification scheme.
