Content description

Books on textual criticism and Near Eastern topography. A few personal papers.

History and development

The personal library of the biblical scholar Constantin von Tischendorf (1815-1874), who discovered and published Codex Sinaiticus. After his death in Leipzig the collection was purchased for 460, raised by Thomas Martin Lindsay and Alexander Balmain Bruce, for the Free Church College (subsequently Trinity College), Glasgow and transferred with the rest of the College Library to the University of Glasgow in 1974.
