Description
of Collection
Content description
Significant collection of Arabic language and literature, and to a lesser extent, of Hebrew language and literature. Secondary literature principlally in English or German, with some scarcer C19 German scholarship.
History and development
Developed in connection with the teaching of Hebrew and Semitic studies, and more recently Islamic and Middle Eastern studies; older publications purchased or donated since C18.

General arrangement and access regulations
Classified, open access arrangement using GUL local classification; the enumeration for languages is based on LC. Older, unclassified material is being/has been transferred to the Historical Collection (remote store). Periodicals are arranged by broad subject classification (e.g. Oriental) and then by title. Some older periodical titles are also being transferred to remote store. Relevant classification: Oriental D-H, P-Q
